Data were collected by "Introductory Information Form", "The Scale of Selfcare Strength" and "Beck Hopelessness Scale". Data were analyzed using number, distribution of percentage and Pearson Correlation Analysis. The mean age of elderly people included in this study was 75.036.29, of them 54.5% was men, 70.3% was widow, 55.4% was literate, 31.7% was housewife, and it was determined that 66.3% were middle-incomed, that 39.6% were those without any social security, that 73.3% had children, and that 43.6% were not visited by their children. Of these elderly people, 43.6% found their physical health "good" and 54.5% found their mental health "good". This study showed that of elderly people 54.5% had a physical illness requiring regularly taking medications. Of attendant elderly people; overall average score for Beck Hopelessness Scale was 8.963.93, and for The Scale of Selfcare Strength it was 98.8018.81.
